This cd was awarded as the best album in World music' category amongst 10.000 albums. The British magazine Songlines' has chosen it in the top 10 of 'World music' albums in 2009. The great Orion, grandson of Minas, who was especially handsome and strong, walked over the waves and shot wild monsters unerringly with his bow and arrow... When they blinded him he did not give up hope but went and found the Sun, who granted him its light. When he fell madly in love with Plioni, he pursued her for years with her seven daughters without being able to touch her. Finally, the Gods made him a star.Since then, Orion has pursued Plioni (the beautiful Pleiades) in the sky without reaching her...This lovely combination, beauty, strength, the Sun and light, the elimination of evil, the struggle and the unreachable ideal, gave the name of the mythical great star to this CD. There is, however, another reason.The few fine friends who worked on this CD also crossed the waves to come from their distant homelands here to Crete, and they have played the musical traditions exactly, for a very long time now and each one of them is a small Orion in the global artistic sky.I offer my heartfelt thanks to all of them, and also to those fine colleagues and friends of Crete, my heartfelt thanks.
